Thibaut de Ruyter

2025

Thibaut de Ruyter is a French-German architect, curator and critic. He lives and works in Berlin since 2001.
As a trained architect, he conceives exhibitions on conceptual, technical and spatial level, delivering not only the content but also the design of his projects. His interests are based on new media and their archaeology, the relationship between art and architecture (mostly through a critic of modernity) and the artistic scene in post-Soviet countries and particularly in central Asia.
He is a member of AICA-France and a board member of the Nan Hoover Foundation.
In 2021, he curated the 14th Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale (Siberia). In the framework of this exhibition, entitled « Ochumelaya Vystavka», Berlin-based artists were asked to send instructions for the production of artworks by the inhabitants, artists and museum goers from the city. Initiated in responses to travel restrictions, the project turned into a deep questioning of the way contemporary art is produced.
He is – or has been – a regular contributor to the magazines L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, Art Press, Il Giornale dell’Architettura, Particules, Fucking Good Art, Frieze d/e, Architectuul. He published texts in various catalogs and directed two special issues of Art Press. He also edited or co-edited the books: “Zeitgeist” (Archive books, Berlin), “INDUSTRIAL on tour and INDUSTRIAL” (research, Revolver Verlag, Berlin) and “Stadt/Bild” (Verbrecher Verlag, Berlin).
